The power of a hug
The average length of a hug between two people is 3 seconds. But researchers have discovered something fantastic. When a hug lasts 20 seconds, there is a therapeutic effect on the body and mind.
The reason is that a sincere hug produces a hormone called "oxytocin", also known as the love hormone. This substance has many benefits in our physical and mental health, helps us, among other things, to relax, to feel safe and calm our fears and anxiety.
This wonderful calming is offered free of charge every time we have a person in our arms, we cherish a dog or cat, we're dancing with our partner, the closer we get to someone or just hold the shoulders of a friend.

The Great Dictator Final Speech (1940)
I’m
sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business.
I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help
everyone if possible- Jew, Gentile, black men, white…
We
all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to
live by each others’ happiness, not by each other’s misery. We
don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is
room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for
everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost
the way.
Greed
has poisoned men’s souls; has barricaded the world with hate; has
goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed,
but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has
left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness,
hard and unkind.
We
think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need
humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.
Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.
The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very
nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in man; cries
out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all.
Even
now my voice is reaching millions throughout
the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children,
victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent
people.
To
those who can hear me, I say “Do not despair.”
The misery that
is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who
fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and
dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to
the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
Soldiers!
Don’t give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave
you; who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and
what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you
as cannon fodder!
Don’t
give yourselves to these unnatural men—machine men with machine
minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle!
You are men! You have a love of
humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate!
Only
the unloved hate; the unloved and the unnatural.
Soldiers!
Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!
In
the seventeenth chapter of St. Luke, it’s written “the kingdom of
God is within man”, not one man nor a group of men, but in all men!
In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create
machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the
power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a
wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that
power.
Let
us all unite.
Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give
youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these
things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill
their promise. They never will!
Dictators
free themselves but they enslave the people!
Now
let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world!
To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate
and intolerance!
Let
us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress
will lead to all men’s happiness.
Soldiers,
in the name of democracy, let us all unite!

The Beatles - Hey Jude
"So let it out and let it in, hey jude, begin,
Youre waiting for someone to perform with.
And don't you know that it's just you, hey jude, you'll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder."

What will your verse be?
"We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, “O me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless… of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?” Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be? (Dead Poets Society)

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (2013)
Jose Gonzalez - Stay Alive
I will stay with you tonight
Hold you close ‘til the morning light
In the morning watch a new day rise
We’ll do whatever just to stay alive
We’ll do whatever just to stay alive
Well the way I feel is the way I write
It isn’t like the thoughts of the man who lies
There is a truth and it’s on our side
Dawn is coming
Open your eyes
Look into the sun as the new days rise

Admiration
"If you are always sour and critical and pitying, you make your friends smaller. And because your friends become smaller, you become smaller.
You are as great as your friends are great.
Make your friends, husband, wife, children greater, and you will be greater. You can make them greater if you water and take care of all the beauty that they have.
That is what admiration is.
Admiration is fertilizing, watering, bringing sunshine to the sprouts that are within our hearts."

Arco Iris (Mario Benedetti)
A veces
por supuesto
usted sonríe
y no importa lo linda
o lo fea
lo vieja
o lo joven
lo mucho
o lo poco
que usted realmente
sea
por supuesto
usted sonríe
y no importa lo linda
o lo fea
lo vieja
o lo joven
lo mucho
o lo poco
que usted realmente
sea
sonríe
cual si fuese
una revelación
y su sonrisa anula
todas las anteriores
caducan al instante
sus rostros como máscaras
sus ojos duros
cual si fuese
una revelación
y su sonrisa anula
todas las anteriores
caducan al instante
sus rostros como máscaras
sus ojos duros
frágiles
como espejos en óvalo
su boca de morder
su mentón de capricho
sus pómulos fragantes
sus párpados
su miedo
su boca de morder
su mentón de capricho
sus pómulos fragantes
sus párpados
su miedo
sonríe
y usted nace
asume el mundo
mira
sin mirar
indefensa
desnuda
transparente
y usted nace
asume el mundo
mira
sin mirar
indefensa
desnuda
transparente
y a lo mejor
si la sonrisa viene
de muy
de muy adentro
usted puede llorar
sencillamente
sin desgarrarse
sin desesperarse
sin convocar la muerte
ni sentirse vacía
si la sonrisa viene
de muy
de muy adentro
usted puede llorar
sencillamente
sin desgarrarse
sin desesperarse
sin convocar la muerte
ni sentirse vacía
llorar
sólo llorar
sólo llorar
entonces su sonrisa
si todavia existe
se vuelve un arco iris.
si todavia existe
se vuelve un arco iris.

Ruby Sparks (2012)
"This is the true and impossible story of my very great love. In the hope that she will not read this and reproach me, I have withheld many telling details: her name, the particulars of her birth and upbringing, and any identifying scars or birth marks. All the same, I cannot help but write this for her, to tell her "I'm sorry for every word I wrote to change you, I'm sorry for so many things. I couldn't see you when you were here and, now that you're gone, I see you everywhere." One may read this and think it's magic, but falling in love is an act of magic, so is writing. It was once said of Catcher In The Rye, "That rare miracle of fiction has again come to pass: a human being has been created out of ink, paper and the imagination." I am no J.D. Salinger, but I have witnessed a rare miracle. Any writer can attest: in the luckiest, happiest state, the words are not coming from you, but through you. She came to me wholly herself, I was just lucky enough to be there to catch her."

High Fidelity (2000)
“It’s brilliant, being depressed; you can behave as badly as you like.”
“It’s no good pretending that any relationship has a future if your record collections disagree violently or if your favourite films wouldn’t even speak to each other if they met at a party.”
"... That other girl, or the other women, whatever, I was thinking that they're just fantasies, you know, and they always seem really great because they never cause problems, or not important problems, ..." "But they have cotton underwear too..." "It's all fantasy, it doesn't really exist..." "The real person is the one you have everyday by your side, the one that has cool lingerie and cotton underwear, the one that you have really important problems with. Problems caused because she loves you and cares about you. And that's nice" (High Fidelity and I)

It's a Kind of a Funny Story (2010)
“Relationships change even more than people. It’s like two people changing. It’s exponentially more volatile. Especially two teenagers. ”

Aleph (Paulo Coelho)
“It takes a huge effort to free yourself from memory”
“Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.”
“In magic - and in life - there is only the present moment, the now. You can't measure time the way you measure the distance between two points. 'Time' doesn't pass. We human beings have enormous difficulty in focusing on the present; we're always thinking about what we did, about how we could have done it better, about the consequences of our actions, and about why we didn't act as we should have. Or else we think about the future, about what we're going to do tomorrow, what precautions we should take, what dangers await us around the next corner, how to avoid what we don't want and how to get what we have always dreamed of.”
“If I believe I will win, then victory will believe in me.”
“Each time we embrace someone warmly, we gain an extra day of life.”
“If you spend too much time trying to find out what is good or bad about someone else, you'll forget your own soul and end up exhausted and defeated by the energy you have wasted in judging others.”
“I am in the Aleph, the point at which everything is in the same place at the same time. I'm at a window, looking out at the world and its secret places, poetry lost in time and words left hanging in space...sentences that are perfectly understood, even when left unspoken. Feelings that simultaneously exalt and suffocate.”
“I receive your love and I give you mine. Not the love of a man for women, not the love of a father for a child, not the love of God for his creatures, but a love with no name and no explanation, like a river that cannot explain why it follows sometimes we need to be strangers to ourselves. Then the hidden light in our soul will illuminate what we need to see.”
Before Midnight (2013)
“I kind of see love as this escape for two people who don’t really know how to be alone.”
“Well, what I miss the most about him is the way he use to lie down next to me, sometimes his arm would stretch along my chest such that I couldn’t move myself. I withheld my breath and I felt safe, complete. And I miss the way he was whistling down the streets and every time I do something I think of what he would say, well its cold today, wear a scarf, but lately I have been forgetting little things, he is sort of fading. I am starting to forget him and it’s like losing him again. So sometimes I make myself remember every detail of his face, the exact color of his eyes, lips, his cheeks, skin , his hair that was all gone by the time he went. And sometimes, not always, but sometimes I actually see him as if a cloud moves away and he is there, like I could almost touch him and that’s when a real world rushes in and he vanishes again. Well I did this every morning when the sun was not too bright outside, well the sun somehow makes him vanish, as he appears and he disappears like a sunrise and sunset or anything so ephemeral , just like our life we appear and disappear and we are so important to someone but we are just passing through.”
“You know something, you’re just like the little girls and everybody else. You wanna live inside some fairy tale. I’m just trying to make things better here. I tell you that I love you unconditionally. I tell you that you’re beautiful. I tell you that your ass looks great when you’re eighty. I’m trying to make you laugh. I put up with plenty of your shit and if you think I’m just some dog who’s gonna keep coming back, then you’re wrong. But if you want true love, then this is it. This is real life; it’s not perfect but it’s real and if you can’t see it, then you’re blind.”
“I guess when you’re young you just believe there’ll be many people you’ll connect with. Later in life you realise it only happens a few times.”
